Is the world coming to an end May 21, 2011?

MANILA, Philippines — Just recently, a religious group visited Manila to warn residents that doomsday will happen May 21, 2011.

According to Harold Camping, leader of Family Radio, a California-based religious radio network, the end of the world is bound to happen with around 200 million people (roughly 3% of the world’s population) being “raptured” or saved come “Judgment Day.”

But Camping and his group are not the only ones who fear that the world will soon end.

Hallelujah Kingdom of Jerusalem Global Foundation, a Philippine-based religious group,  predicted that between March 16, 2011 and March 16, 2012, the entire Metro Manila will disappear from the face of the earth because it will be hit by a very strong earthquake.

End-of-the-world believers from the religious sector point to verses in the Bible that listed signs Judgment Day is about to happen.

Matthew 24:6-7 states, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.”

Meanwhile, there are also events that some see as warnings about the end of the world. These include the impact of a supposed nearing asteroid, nuclear warfare, global epidemic and climate change. — ABS-CBN News (abs-cbnNEWS.com)
